A changing landscape is exciting, mysterious, and arouses one’s curiosity. Until 2010 the IBA Tours explored the process of change between old and new: on foot, with jeeps, buses, bicycles or rafts; individually or as group tours.
The expert- and adventure tours began at the IBA Terraces on the shores of the future Lake Ilse. Knowledgeable guides made the invisible visible. They provided insight into the particular history of the Lausitz region, its present and future, and they facilitated meetings with people from the region. They took visitors to the new Lausitzer Lake Land and east to the German Polish border.
As of 2007 smaller tours, known as the “Journey to Mars,” replaced the more extensive explorations of the opencast mines. In addition, there were jeep safaris – with four-wheel drive to and around the active opencast mines – an impressive experience for tourists. The view into the opencast mine of Welzow-Süd was unforgettable: gigantic coal seams and mining tools alternating with flowers, shrubs and trees that persist in growing despite the hard conditions; sand storms, bizarre canyons and, somewhere in the middle, a snack at a table with white tablecloth.
The travel agent, iba tours, is ready to take visitors to the IBA project sites and the lake land. IBA can be tracked down in Lusatia even after its closing. Since 2011 the travel agent iba-tours will conduct the established guided tours at the IBA Terraces. Under the direction of Sören Hoika almost all previous IBA tours will continue.
