Presentation of Dr. Birgit Schliewenz

Artificially created regions are often characterized by conflicts of interests: a new structure is imposed, and the existing regional interests oppose, at first sight, the corresponding goals and intentions of local stakeholders. What promotes and what hinders the formation of a new identity under these conditions? The Romanian region of Centru, founded in 1998, provides answers to this question. In the structural change of the region, regenerative energy sources are becoming increasingly important for their economic potential. The presentation shows how the region uses this potential to strengthen its identity in historical, cultural and economic aspects.
