Presentation of Luís Martins

Research programs on abandoned Portuguese mining sites have been developed since 1994. A ranking of the most problematic old mines has been presented, based on an analysis of the environmental impact of 80 mining sites located throughout the country. At the same time, many of those abandoned mines have a relevant mining heritage – in some cases of more than 2,000 years – especially the ones included in the Iberian Pyrite Belt, which will be described in the presentation.
