Today, it is widely acknowledged that the whole society is full of inspiration and ideas on how to create the »optimal« landscape. Therefore, the answer to the question how to achieve the optimal landscape involves more than consulting professionals and experts; it should also build upon existing individual knowledge within a wider society. This presentation deals with a method – called RITAM – for spatial decision support that provides insight into the ecological and economic values of landscape and nature. It allows for an active collaboration among the actors involved, and decision makers can draw on the outcomes in their spatial planning and design process.
