Presentation of Erico Fritsch

Mining has played an important role in Chile for centuries. Today, Chile is the world’s biggest producer of copper with a market share of over 30 percent. The price of this market position is, among other things, numerous mining brownfields that require rehabilitation. The presentation will describe strategies and sets of tools that have been developed for the rehabilitation of mining brownfields; among those strategies and tools are the working out of binding legal framework conditions, strengthening of responsible offices and institutions as well as experiences with the first pilot rehabilitation measures.
