Presentation of Dr. Friedrich von Bismarck

In the Lusatian mining area a unique change is taking place in the landscape. About seven billion tons of coal have been mined there, but also 125 places have been sacrificed to mining. In the early 1990s some of the mines were transferred into private ownership; however, the majority were abandoned. The common efforts of the stakeholders have meanwhile led to impressive results. The new Lusatian post-mining landscapes form a stable foundation predominantly for the recreation and tourism industry and for creating new jobs in trade and industry.
