IBA on location

IBA Terraces Visitor Centre

"The most unusual edge of civilisation in the world" (DIE WELT newspaper)

The IBA Terraces were opened in 2004 and are situated directly on the edge of the former open-cast mine. The unconventional design comprising three cube-shaped buildings linked by terraces is the work of architect Ferdinand Heide (Frankfurt am Main). They house the visitor centre of the IBA and of the Lusatian Lakeland.

INFORMATION CENTRE

In addition to a breathtaking view over the former open-cast mining landscape and the constantly evolving and emerging Lake Ilse, visitors to the centre will find all the main facts about the Lusatian countryside and its ongoing process of far-reaching change as well as information on cultural events and tourist attractions. Maps of the cycle paths can be purchased here, as well as photographic catalogues and books on industrial heritage, postcards and "see_Produkte" lakeland-themed products.

CLOSING EXHIBITION ON IBA TERRACES

"The Reconquering of a Landscape" exhibition reports the working process and the 30 projects in which the IBA has been involved.

EVENTS ON THE IBA TERRACES

The exhibition building leads out onto a sandy beach with deckchairs for a relaxing end to the tour of the exhibition. Building 3 also boasts excellent infrastructure for functions and can be hired for conferences, corporate events, parties, etc.
Events like the Film Nights and "Deckchair Jazz" are also held on the Terraces. The tours also depart from here, offering a close-up view of the landscape as it goes through its transformation from bizarre open-cast mining landscape to lakeland scenery.
